THE TORN MAN BY JOHANN NEPOMUK NESTROY [THEATER]
Mr. von Lips has everything and lives a life of luxury and excess. Yet nothing gives his life meaning or his tormented soul a sense of stability. He is unhappy, numb, and bored. This is set to change when he decides to marry the first woman he comes across — whoever that may be. When he then encounters Mrs. Schleyer, a marriage swindler, along with a jealous rival, he plunges headfirst, so to speak, into a new life. Presumed dead, he resurfaces under a false name at the farm of his tenant Krautkopf and works there on his own estate. For the first time, he experiences what it means to stand on the edge of nothing and to have lost everything. He comes to realize how empty and illusory his existence was among false friends. In Kathi, he finds an ally. He once helped her, and she has never forgotten it. This witty farce by Johann Nepomuk Nestroy joyfully illustrates how quickly fate can turn. A man at a turning point in his life, searching for a new direction. A comedic musical theater experience for all the senses.
